The Union Home Ministry extended the ban on Jammu and Kashmir Jamaat-e-Islami for another five years, citing its continued engagement in activities deemed detrimental to the security, integrity, and sovereignty of the nation.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in a statement on X, reiterated the government's commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and separatism. He warned that anyone posing a threat to national security would face severe consequences.

Jamaat-e-Islami was first declared an 'Unlawful Association' on February 28, 2019, following which its activities were banned. The organisation has been accused of promoting separatism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The extension of the ban comes as part of the government's efforts to curb such activities and maintain peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Article 370 abrogation.

The decision to extend the ban has been taken after a detailed assessment of the organisation's activities and its impact on the security situation in the region.

The Home Ministry's action underscores the continued tough stand against groups deemed sympathetic to separatism and peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ban on Jamaat-e-Islami also includes restrictions on its funding and other financial activities, aimed at choking off the flow of resources to the organisation.

The government has been cracking down on organisation's suspected act of funding terrorism, as part of its broader strategy to combat terrorism and maintain law and order in the region.
