The two-day national convention of the BJP ended on a high note on Sunday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the party cadre to focus on the next 100 days to win general elections. He asserted that even in foreign countries, everyone is sure that the BJP will return to power for a third term.

Modi stressed the importance of gaining the trust of all sections of society, signaling a commitment to inclusivity and broad-based governance. Modi urged the cadre to reach out to every new voter and beneficiaries of the government schemes in the next 100 days so that the party can win 370 seats.

Reflecting on the achievements in the past decade, Modi highlighted the government’s bold decisions and forward-looking policies, including the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, which put an end to a centuries-long wait and underscored the government’s commitment to cultural heritage and national unity. He also talked about the opening of Kartarpur corridor, the abrogation of Article 370, and the implementation of the New Education Policy.

Earlier, a political resolution passed at the national convention had asserted that the ideals of Ram Rajya were realised during the 10 years of Modi government.

The convention gave a peak into the BJP’s 2024 campaign as it would focus on the fulfillment of its cultural goals like Ram temple and repeal of Article 370. As over 11,500 party representatives, including cabinet ministers, chief ministers, MPs and MLAs, were present during the convention, the party managed to send a uniform message about its poll campaign to various hierarchies of the party.

Similar national conventions ahead of 2014 and 2019 elections had set the tone for the party’s campaign. This time, the BJP is stepping into the electoral arena with the confidence of scoring a hat-trick, while aiming to destroy the opposition grouping even as turncoats are welcomed with enthusiasm into the party fold.

The party’s confidence was also reflected in the choice of venue as it held the meeting at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam, also a venue for G20 summit, giving its partymen a peak into the infrastructure created by the government in the last 10 years. The previous two conventions were held at Ramlila Maidan.

Modi used the occasion to contrast the BJP’s vision for development with the purported lack of vision exhibited by opposition parties. He criticised the opposition, particularly the Congress, for their failure to prioritise national security and development, citing instances where they attempted to hinder critical initiatives such as the Rafale deal and questioned the efficacy of surgical strikes conducted by the Indian security forces.

Looking ahead, Modi outlined ambitious economic and environmental goals for the nation, including achieving a net-zero target for railways by 2030 and reducing India’s dependence on imports. He also emphasised the importance of environmental sustainability and job creation, highlighting initiatives such as the hosting of the Youth Olympics in 2029 and the ambitious goal of hosting the Olympics in 2036.

Modi said he has been silently working to collect inputs for India’s vision for 2047 which may be revealed in the coming days.
