Israel Embassy joined the #ExploreIndianIslands trend on social media, amid India's diplomatic row with the Maldives.

Taking to X, the Israeli embassy in India posted pictures from Lakshadweep, with the trending hashtag. The embassy also cited its visit to the island last year for a desalination project at the request of the government.

Three deputy ministers in Maldives made derogatory remarks against Prime Narendra Modi for his post on 'X' following his visit to Lakshadweep, inferring that it was an attempt to project the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives.

The ministers - Malsha Shareef, Mariyam Shiuna and Abdulla Mahzoom Majid - were suspended after the remarks sparked an uproar on social media, with celebrities joining in to promote Indian destinations.

Maldives foreign ministry clarified to the Indian envoy yesterday that the controversial remarks by the trio do not represent the official stand of the government.
