The Gurugram police on Monday arrested a 20-year-old woman for her alleged involvement in the murder of former model Divya Pahuja who was shot dead at a city hotel on January 2.

Police said the arrested woman, identified as Megha—a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi—helped Abhijeet Singh, the hotel owner and the prime accused in the case, to hide the crime weapon and dispose of Divya’s personal belongings.

Megha, who was nabbed from her house at Najafgarh, was produced in a city court which remanded her in two-day police custody. The woman was working with an online food delivery company.

"The woman has been taken on a 2 day-police remand for further questioning. She would be thoroughly questioned about her involvement in the incident and the weapon used in the murder, documents and personal belongings of the deceased," Vijay Pratap Singh, DCP (crime) said.

With the arrest of Megha, the number of persons arrested in the case rose to four. Police have already arrested main accused Abhijit Singh, Hemraj and Omprakash in the case, while they are conducting raids to nab two other accused -- Balraj Gill and Ravi Bandra.

Abhijeet had reportedly told police that he had called Megha to Hotel City Point after the murder and asked her to dispose of the belongings of the deceased woman.

Police are yet to recover Divya’s body even a week after the incident even as the investigators are raising doubts that the accused might have thrown it in Ghaggar river near Patiala.

A team of police is trying to fish out the body from the river with the help of divers, an investigating official told PTI.

Divya was shot dead in the hotel on January 2 night. The CCTV footage showed three men dragging Divya’s body wrapped in a sheet out of the hotel and keeping it in the boot of a blue BMW car. The trio later escaped the crime scene in the same car, but were arrested in the next day.

Divya was a former model and an accused in the murder of gangster Sandeep Gadoli in a controversial encounter at a Mumbai hotel on February 7, 2016.

Mumbai Police arrested Divya—who reportedly was also the girlfriend of Gadoli—along with her mother and five policemen in connection with the incident.

According to Mumbai Police officials, Virendra Kumar alias Binder Gujjar, who had run a rival gang, allegedly conspired with Haryana Police officials to eliminate Gadoli.

Gujjar was in prison at the time of the encounter, but he hatched a conspiracy and roped in Divya as a honey-trap to kill Gadoli, they had said.

The Bombay High Court granted bail to Divya in June 2023, about seven years after she was arrested.
