Karnataka: Court grants bail to right-wing activist arrested for rioting in 1992

A Hubballi court on Friday granted bail to Hindu activist Srikanth Poojari, who was recently arrested for allegedly being involved in riots after the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya in 1992.

According to Poojari's lawyer, Sanjeev Badasaka, he was granted conditional bail and will be out from the jail by Saturday evening. 

The copy of the order is yet to be released.

Poojari, a right-wing activist from Karnataka's Channapet in Hubballi district, was accused of setting a few shops on fire during the riots. A total of three cases were booked against him for allegedly causing riots and causing hurt. Poojari was arrested in connection with the commotion in Hubballi in 1992.

BJP on Wednesday launched massive protests across the state against the arrest of the Hindu activist.

Recently, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara directed the police to pursue pending cases.
