A group of unidentified gunmen targeted vehicles carrying police commandos in Manipur’s Moreh on Saturday, resulting in heavy exchange of fire.
The gunfight began at 3.50 pm when the commandos were moving towards Key Location Point (KLP) from Moreh.
"One policeman sustained splinter injuries when they come under attack while crossing M Chahnou village section of Imphal-Moreh road," a police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
He said the injured cop is undergoing treatment at 5 Assam Rifles camp.
According to reports, indiscriminate firing was still going on in the vicinity of the New Moreh entrance gate and M Chahnou village.
The fresh attack came hours after unidentified men gunned down a village guard at Kadangband in Manipur's Imphal West district around 3.30 am on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Jamesbond Ningombam, was guarding the village when he was shot dead by suspected militants from a nearby hill.
