Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated phase-1 of state-of-the-art Maharishi Valmiki International Airport at Ayodhya Dham on Saturday. The airport can handle 10 lakh passengers annually.
The prime minister was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and other senior leaders. Earlier today, Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Ayodhya Dham railway station.
The airport named after Maharishi Valmiki was built at a cost of Rs 1,450 crore. The airport’s facade takes inspiration from Ram Mandir and the facility was readied in 20 months. According to AAI, the airport is equipped to serve about 10 lakh passengers annually and it will have 60 check-in counters, 05 baggage carousels, 19 X-BIS machines, 60 arrival immigration counters, 44 departure emigration counters, lounges and F&B outlets. The interiors of the terminal Building are decorated with local art, paintings and murals depicting the life of Bhagwan Shri Ram, a PIB release said.
Earlier, Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Ayodhya Dham junction and flagged off two Amrit Bharat trains and six Vande Bharat trains. The railway station was redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 240 crore and it is equipped with all modern features like lifts, escalators, food plazas, shops for puja needs, cloakrooms, child care rooms, and waiting halls.
Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Modi flagged off the new trains. The Amrit Bharat trains will be operated in two routes - Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal and Malda Town-Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru), a statement said.
Modi flagged off six Vande Bharat trains - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express; Amritsar-Delhi Vande Bharat Express; Coimbatore-Bangalore Cantt Vande Bharat Express; Mangalore-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express; Jalna-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express and Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Vande Bharat Express, it said.
