Leaders of prominent political parties in Kashmir and former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti claimed they have been put under house arrest in the state as the Supreme Court is pronouncing verdict on petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370. However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor and police denied placing anybody under house arrest.

In an X post, the J&K People’s Democratic Party claimed, “Even before Supreme Court judgement is pronounced, Police has sealed the doors of the residence of PDP President @MehboobaMufti and put her under illegal house arrest.” The National Conference party also tweeted claiming former CM Omar Abdullah has been placed under house arrest. “Early this morning, JKNC VP @OmarAbdullah was locked up inside his house. What a shame!”

However, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha denied the charges and said no leader has been placed under house arrest. "This is totally baseless. No one has been put under house arrest or arrested due to political reasons in J&K. It is an attempt to spread rumours,” Sinha told reporters. The Kashmir police also denied the charges and tweeted no person has been put under house arrest.

However, quoting media reports, Abdullah tweeted, “Dear Mr LG these chains that have been put on my gate have not been put by me so why are you denying what your police force has done. It’s also possible you don’t even know what your police is (are) doing? Which one is it? Are you being dishonest or is (are) your police acting independent of you?

PDP president's daughter, and her media advisor, Iltija Mufti also questioned police’s claims. “Count the number of locks. Why don't you allow the media to come & see for themselves if we are under house arrest or not? Srinagar Police or Pinocchio?,” she tweeted.
