2 IAF pilots killed during training sortie in Telangana

Instructor and trainee were onboard the Pilatus PC 7 Mk II aircraft during the crash

A training aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Telangana on Monday, killing both pilots onboard. The incident occurred during a routine training sortie, Air Force officials said.

The training flight, which took off from Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana crashed near Toopran in Medak. IAF confirmed that the pilots succumbed to fatal injuries. “A Pilatus PC 7 Mk II aircraft met with an accident today morning during a routine training sortie from AFA, Hyderabad. It is with deep regret that the IAF confirms both pilots onboard the aircraft sustained fatal injuries. No damage to any civil life or property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” IAF tweeted.

According to reports, an instructor and a trainee were onboard the aircraft during the crash. Superintendent of Police, Medak, Rohini told ANI that the aircraft crashed near Toopran and firefighters doused the fire. She added airport staff and clue team have reached the spot.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condoled the deaths. “Anguished by this accident near Hyderabad. It is deeply saddening that two pilots have lost their lives. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” he tweeted.
