Security forces neutralised a terrorist in Pulwama during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The identity of the slain terrorist is yet to be ascertained.
A gun battle broke out at New Colony in the Arihal area of the district on Thursday after security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the orchards there, the officials said. One terrorist was shot dead as the operation continued, officials said.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist were not known immediately, they said. Security forces said war-like stores were recovered as part of the operation in Pulwama. Named Operation Arihal, tweeting about the operation, Chinar Corps said on Friday, “On specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 30 Nov-01 Dec 23 at Arihal, Pulwama. Cordon laid & contact established. 01xTerrorist has been eliminated along with the recovery of weapon and war-like stores. Search operation in progress.”
