Pakistan Rangers resorted to “unprovoked firing” at Indian posts in Jammu on Thursday night, prompting strong retaliation by the Border Security Force.

"Tonight at about 2000 hours, unprovoked firing started by Pak Rangers on BSF posts in Arnia area which is being befittingly retaliated by BSF troops," the BSF said in a statement.

The firing was still on, it said.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that some BSF jawans have sustained injuries in the exchange of fire.

On October 17, Pakistan Rangers had fired at Indian posts in the Arnia sector, leaving a BSF soldier injured.

The fresh firing came on a day when the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in a joint operation foiled an infiltration bid and killed five terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.

Five AK rifles and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site.
