Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan said on Thursday that the state would demand for the release of 16,000 cusecs of water from Karnataka during the Cauvery Water Management Authority meeting.

Duraimurugan said, “The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water by August 30. Tomorrow, at the Cauvery Water Management Authority meeting we would demand for the release of 16,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.” The minister said the regulatory body earlier ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to the state for 15 days. 

To date, Tamil Nadu has received 4.21 tmc of water, the minister said. Tamil Nadu still needs to receive 0.4543tmc of water.
