In the wake of an email threatening to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and blow up the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, security has been stepped up as the city is set to host the World Cup cricket matches.

The thretening email had also demanded Rs 500 crore as well as release of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, reported Indian Express.

The NIA had alerted the Mumbai police and other agenices dealing PM's security was also put on alert.

Though the source of the email is not clear, Mumbai police has stepped up the security at Wankhede stadium as the World Cup matches are set to take place at the stadium.

Reportedly, the email threat was received on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the email.

"We blow up Narendra Modi and Narendra Modi stadium if the government does not give us Rs 500 crore and Lawrence Bishnoi," the email was quoted by the Indian Express. "Everything sells in Hindustan, so we too have bought something. No matter how much you secure, you won't be able to remain safe from us. If you wish to talk, do so on this mail)," it added.

Since 2014, Bishnoi has been in jail facing several charging including the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
