Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday reiterated his remarks made in Lok Sabha that only three out of 90 secretaries in the government of India belong to the other backward class (OBC) communities. Addressing a public meeting in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur, Rahul asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of conducting a caste census.
"The Government of India is being run by secretaries and cabinet secretaries. Only three out of 90 secretaries in the government of India are OBCs,” he said.
The Congress leader claimed that the caste census would be an ‘x-ray’ of India as it will give a clear picture of how many people belong to SC, ST, Dalit and general categories. "Why is PM Modi scared of caste census? Why did they not release the caste census report conducted by Congress?,” he asked.
Rahul further trained his guns at Modi over the Gautam Adani issue, and said the businessman gets all the benefit when the BJP government launches any scheme.
"When we press the remote (during launching events of schemes), the poor get the benefit of the schemes while when the BJP does it, Adani gets ports, airports and railways contracts, and infrastructure projects," Rahul said, reported ANI.
Interestingly, Rahul raked up the Adani issue even as his alliance partner and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar met the business tycoon at the latter’s residence in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The opposition parties have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into allegations levelled by US short seller Hindenburg against the Adani Group.
Rahul alleged his Lok Sabha membership was cancelled after he questioned PM Modi's relations with Adani.
The Congress leader was disqualified as LS member after a court in Surat in Gujarat sentenced him to two years in jail for a remark at a rally in Karnataka about why thieves had the surname Modi.
