An army jawan, who had gone missing on June 29, was found on Friday, Jammu & Kashmir Police said.

“#Missing Army jawan has been recovered by Kulgam Police. Joint #interrogation will start shortly after medical checkup. Further details shall follow,” J&K Police said in a tweet.

The soldier, Javid Ahmed Wani, a resident of Asthal in Kulgam, was on leave when he went missing. He had come home to celebrate his Eid (Bakra Eid) with his family.

He had gone to the Chawalgam to buy some edibles in his Alto but didn’t return home. His family had reported the matter to the police, and a probe was launched to trace him.

In a video message, his mother had appealed for his release. "My son is innocent and he is too young. I am seeking forgiveness if my son has committed any wrong. I appeal one and all to allow my son return home," she had said.

In the past too, soldiers on leave were abducted by militants. Later their bodies were recovered.
