A low-intensity explosion was heard near Sri Guru Ram Dass Niwas in the vicinity of the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Thursday morning. It is the third explosion in Amritsar within a week.

Five suspects have been detained in this connection, reported ANI. No fatalities have been reported so far.

According to the Punjab Police, the motive behind the blast was to disturb peace. Explosives used in firecrackers were applied in the blast. The area has been sealed and a forensic team has reached.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh said police received an intimation at around midnight that "a loud sound" had been heard.

A low-intensity explosion took place on a heritage street near the Golden Temple here on May 6 and then another explosion occurred in the area in less than 30 hours after the first blast.

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has hit out at the Punjab government for the incident. "This is the failure of the Punjab govt. We will strengthen our own task force now. We urge police to hold a thorough probe into the matter," Committee president H S Dhami said.
