Reeling from a sweltering summer, the country can hope for some respite now, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted showers in several parts of India, particularly towards the East. Heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya till Sunday.

IMD has predicted rainfall with isolated thunderstorm due to western disturbance over Uttar Pradesh, and moisture incursion due to an anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal.

“Under the influence of a Western Disturbance roughly along 72°E, a cyclonic circulation over UP and moisture incursion due to an anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal:

1) Fairly Widespread/Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm...with lightning & heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya till tomorrow. 2) Light/rainfall along with thunderstorm activity also undergoing over some parts of East UP & Bihar,” IMD tweeted.

In the recent days, severe heat wave disrupted life in parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar. IMD had said that temperature is likely to decrease by three to five degrees in East India over the next five days. Temperature is likely to dip in Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha.

“Today, Heat Wave conditions abated from Gangetic West Bengal after 10 days, from Bihar after 7 days and from Odisha after 5 days,” tweeted IMD on Friday.

The maximum temperature rose to even 45 degrees at some places in West Bengal and Bihar.

Earlier IMD had predicted above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of the country from April to June, barring the northwest and peninsular regions, reported PTI.

The central, east and northwest parts of India is expected to experience normal heatwave days during this period.
