MP CM Chouhan says he will pose questions to Kamal Nath on failed promises

Kamal Nath asks Chouhan to save questions as people will soon remove from CM's chair

The verbal tug-of-war of top politicians in Madhya Pradesh is getting interesting as the Assembly polls inch closer. Chief minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared on Saturday that he would be asking a series of questions to ex-CM Kamal Nath over the failed promises of 15-month Congress government.

Speaking on the sidelines of a social media conclave in Ujjain, the chief minister said that Congress has started making false promises again.

“They have not fulfilled any promises in their vachan patra (poll manifesto of 2018). Now I will continuously ask questions to Kamal Nathji. Today, my first question is that they had listed many crops like wheat, chana (gram), mustard and paddy and promised bonus (on purchase price). Did even one person get such a bonus in 15 months? After all, there is a limit to lies. Now I will start asking a series of questions to Kamal Nathji,” the CM said.

The chief minister’s statement came on the background that Nath has been reiterating the fulfilment of poll promises made by Congress in 2018 including farm loans waiver, weekly off to police personnel and adding some new ones like restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS). The ex-CM talks about these promises on social media as well as in all public programmes, saying that as soon as Congress comes to power later this year, the promises will be immediately fulfilled.

Even as Chouhan’s statement elicited interesting responses from Congress supporters who reminded the CM of his government’s lacunae and unfulfilled promises, Kamal Nath himself retorted to say that Chouhan seems to be indulging in ‘net practice for the time when people of the state remove him from the CM chair.’

“I have heard that Shivraj ji is asking me questions on our promises and their fulfilment status. Such questions can be asked only by people with an unstable mentality. The work of a chief minister is not to ask questions, but to implement schemes for people’s welfare. If our announcements are in people’s welfare, you (Chouhan) should implement them. However, do save your questions for a few months. The people of the state will give you enough time by removing you from the (CM) chair. I think you are indulging in net practice for the same,” Nath tweeted.

Chairman of MP Congress media department K.K. Mishra hit out at Chouhan asking the latter to use some intellect while copying something. “This is the first time in the political history of MP that a chief minister with 19 years’ tenure is asking questions to a CM who was in office just for 15 months and is now in Opposition. You (Chouhan) might remember that in 2018 (pre-poll), Kamal Nath ji had shot questions at you. He had asked you a question each for 40 days. You should answer those questions first. Anyway, this decision of yours (to ask questions to Nath) is enough to shame the political history of Madhya Pradesh,” Mishra said in a video statement.

He also tweeted saying that Chouhan’s name should be included in the Guinness Book (of records) as a CM who destroyed the state by ruling it for 19 years will be asking questions every day to the chief of a government of only 15 months. CM is asking questions to the Opposition, how big a joke is that? Mishra asked.
