The Delhi Saket court on Tuesday extended the police custody of Aftab Ameen Poonawala, accused of killing his live-in girlfriend Shraddha Walkar, for four more days. The accused was produced before the court via video conferencing.

This comes as the Delhi Police investigating the case has approached the court seeking permission to conduct a polygraph test on Aftab as he was "misleading the authorities." If the court permits, the test will likely be done on Tuesday itself at Rohini’s Forensic Science Laboratory.

The narco analysis test on Aftab scheduled for Monday was postponed.

There are also reports that a drug angle is also being probed as Aftab revealed during questioning that he and Shraddha visited Tosh in Himachal Pradesh to buy 'weed'. A friend of the victim too had told the police that Aftab was addicted to drugs.

Meanwhile, the High Court has dismissed the Public Interest Litigation seeking the transfer of the Shraddha Walkar murder case from Delhi Police to the CBI. The petitioner had  argued that the presence of media and the public at places of recovery amounts to tampering with evidence. However, the court said it did not find a single good reason to entertain this plea.

Human jaw recovered

The Delhi Police has reportedly recovered a human jaw during searches for the remains of Shraddha Walkar and approached a dentist here in a bid to ascertain whether it belongs to the murder victim.

"The police came today. They had a picture of the jaw which they recovered during the investigation. I asked them to get an X-ray from the Mumbai-based doctor who treated the woman, for a root canal treatment or so. Without an X-ray, it is very difficult to identify," the dentist was quoted by PTI.

Hammer and saw

The owner of a hardware shop located near the place in Mehrauli where Aftab and Shraddha lived has claimed that the accused had purchased a hammer and a saw from him.

"Police had brought Poonawala here some days ago. He informed them that he had purchased a saw, a hammer and nails from my shop. I did not recognise him as he had bought the items some months ago," the shop owner told reporters.

Meanwhile, the search operation to recover the remains of Shraddha is progressing.
