Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, on Monday, claimed that his government is truly serving the cow and sought to know what the BJP and the Bajrang Dal did for "gau mata."

He said while the BJP and Bajrang Dal find cow dung disgusting, his government finds it "pious."

"BJP, Bajrang Dal all claim to worship cows. But what have they done to serve gau mata? It is the Chhattisgarh govt that is truly serving the cow. While they find cow dung disgusting, we, on the hand, consider it pious. We use cow dung in our rituals," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

A few months ago, Baghel had carried the state budget documents in a brief case reportedly made of cow dung powder. The briefcase containing documents for state budget 2022-23 had the words “Gomaye Vasate Lakshmi” written on it.

In 2020, his government had launched Godhan Nyay Yojna—a first of its kind programme—under which the state government would procure cow dung from cattle rearers at Rs 2 per kg for production of organic fertilizers.
