Hours after traffic movement was disrupted in parts of the National Capital Region on Monday due to heavy rain, the district administration in Gurugram has advised companies to work from home for the rest of the day.

The Gurugram district administration issued an advisory that noted the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast light-to-moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50kmph speed throughout Monday over Gurugram. The advisory warned further rains could lead to waterlogging and trees falling.

The advisory asked private institutions/corporate offices to guide employees to work from home for Monday “so that traffic congestion on road can be avoided and repair/renovation works of civil amenities can be done smoothly...” The IMD has forecast rainfall and high-speed winds for Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, heavy rainfall affected flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, causing flights to be diverted, and also led to power cuts and traffic snarls in the NCR, including Gurugram.

In Gurugram, the worst affected stretches were Narsinghpur, Jharsa Crossing, Sector 29, Sector 38, Sector 50, Rajeev Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Civil Lines, Golf Course Extension Road, Vatika Chowk, Sector 52, and Daulatabad Flyover.
