CBI arrests S Bhaskararaman, a close associate of Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram in an alleged bribery case.

Bhaskararaman was arrested on Tuesday night after day-long raids in several locations across the country.

A fresh case has been filed against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, son of P Chidambaram for allegedly facilitating visas of 250 Chinese nationals in 2011, for which he received illegal gratification of Rs 50 lakh. On Tuesday, the CBI conducted multiple raids in ten locations across the country including Karti Chidambaram's residence in Chennai and Delhi and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram's home at Lodhi Estate in Delhi.

It has been alleged that Karti helped Chinese company Talwandi Sabo Power Limited to flout the rules on the number of visas permissible during his father's tenure as Union minister over a decade ago. Project visas were allegedly granted to foreign nationals for the execution of projects in the power and steel sectors.

This is a developing story
