The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday removed Director General of Police Mukul Goel from his post for allegedly disobeying the orders and not taking interest in his work.

He has been appointed the Director General (DG) of the Civil Defence Department, said an official statement.

According to an ANI report, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself has taken the decision in the wake of rising crimes in the state and Goel's negligence in government work.

Last week, the National Human Rights Commission had issued a notice to the DGP seeking report on the alleged sexual assault of 13 year old girl by a police officer inside the station in Lalitpur district.

Goel, a 1987-batch IPS officer, was appointed the Uttar Pradesh DGP in June last year.
