Laying foundation stones and dedicating developmental projects worth Rs 22,000 crore in Dahod, the tribal belt of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recalled his connect with the region. 

Addressing a large tribal gathering at Dahod, Modi emphasized how the BJP-led NDA and the BJP government in Gujarat are concerned about the development of the tribals. He used the phrase “double engine Sarkar”.

Gujarat goes to polls later this year.

The prime minister said that in his early days, he has seen the lives of tribals from Umargaon to Ambaji from close quarters. Modi used to work then as an RSS pracharak. 

He also mentioned that the contribution of tribal leaders in the freedom movement have been duly acknowledged after his party came to power. History has played hide and seek with the contribution of the tribal leaders for the last 70 years, he said. 

Among the developmental works include a workshop by the Indian Railways in Dahod to manufacture locomotives. Modi hoped that the workshop will bring in employment for thousands of youth. 

He said that the electric locomotives are in huge demand abroad also and one day Dahod will play an important role in its export.
