In another heinous incident, a six-year-old girl was raped in broad daylight in Susner of Agar Malwa district on Thursday, leading to a mild communal tension.

However, the Agar Malwa police managed to control the situation, arresting the accused Ramgopal, 20, within three hours of the crime and dousing the tension with the help of community leaders.

Also, later in the day, illegal construction at the house of the accused was razed by the district administration, in keeping with the line of action adopted by the state government currently.

The incident comes close on the heels of the rape of a minor girl in a government rest house (circuit house) in Rewa district by a religious leader. This incident caused a furore in the state, leading to the arrest of Mahant Sitaram on Wednesday evening.

According to the Agar Malwa police, the incident occurred at Paanch Pulia locality of Susner at around 10.30am on Thursday. The six-year-old girl was sitting alone in the shop of her maternal grandfather, when Ramgopal, a resident of nearby Nandna, took away the girl to rape her. He later fled from the spot.

“As soon as we got information of the incident, Susner police were pushed into action and a reward of Rs 10,000 was announced. He was nabbed within three hours along with incriminating evidence. We are treating it as an identified case and will take it to trial at the earliest and ensure the strictest sentence for the accused,” Agar Malwa Superintendent of Police Rakesh Sagar said.

Later in the afternoon, a district administration team led by Tehsildar Vijay Kumar Senani reached Ramgopal’s house in Nandna, about 2km from Susner, along with a police team, to raze the illegal portion of the house. Since bulldozer that was taken to the spot could not reach the house due to narrow lanes, labourers were used to raze the illegal construction, sources said.
