National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said the Delimitation Commission’s proposals has increased alienation in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged the Commission has worked in favour of the BJP under a “planned strategy”.

Abdullah made the statement while talking to reporters after chairing a meeting of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), a six-party alliance that seeks the restoration of Article 370 and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the recommendations made by the Commission are biased.

“The fact is that whatever it has advocated will increase the alienation across J&K,’’ he said. “I see a larger plan in whatever the Commission has done.”

He said the Commission has worked in favour of the BJP.

“I foresee that the plan is to get a resolution passed in favour of the Article 370 move in the J&K assembly,’’ he said. “Then the BJP will itself take the case to court and claim victory.”

He said that the seats have been increased in such a way only to benefit the BJP and to help the party sail through the elections.

“As far as NC is concerned, we will fight elections in any case,” he said.

Whether the PAGD would fight the polls jointly, he said: “It is too premature to comment on this issue at this juncture. Let the elections come, many people will join us to fight the polls.”

On the Russia-Ukraine war, he said he believes the ongoing battle between the two countries will impact the whole world. “There will be inflation and oil prices will skyrocket,” he said.

Asked how he sees India’s decision of abstaining from voting in UNSC on Russia-Ukraine war, he said as he is not a member of UNSC, it does not befit him to commit on the India’s decision to abstain from voting. “The Indian representative in UNSC would be the best person to reply on this,’’ he said.
