Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday exhorted Manipuris to give the BJP a second straight term in office in the coming assembly polls.

At a rally in Heingang, Modi said “In the last five years, our government has aimed to develop Manipur. You've witnessed BJP's good governance as well as good intention. The hard work we put in in the last five years has built a solid foundation for the coming 25 years.”

Modi alleged that decades of Congress rule in the state had only bought inequality to Manipur. Modi said, “The BJP government has made the impossible possible. Every region of Manipur has had relief from bandhs and blockades. Congress, on the other hand, had made bandhs and blockades the main feature of Manipur.”

Heaping praise on incumbent Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Modi said “his government has written a new chapter of change for Manipur, taking everyone forward. The youth have given up arms.. [are] coming forward to lead the development surge.”

Noting that the government had provided free Covid vaccines, Modi asked, “If a pandemic such as this had arrived pre-2017, what would've happened?”

Highlighting welfare measures for women, Modi said, “Under PM Awaz Yojana, more than 60,000 houses are being built in Manipur. Most of these are owned by women. Before the Har Ghar Jal Mission was started, Manipur had just 25,000 household piped water connections. Today, nearly 3 lakh houses in Manipur have piped water connections.”

Modi referred to the extension of rail infrastructure to Manipur, which attributed to his government's vision of the entire Northeast "including Manipur is the gateway to India's trade and business with East Asia.” Modi promised that “The day is not far when the train will come till Imphal, you will be connected to the whole country through rail.”

Modi declared, “Rail connectivity will improve tourism in the region. It will provide the youth with employment opportunities. National Highway connectivity has also witnessed unprecedented work in the last few years... Today, our government is developing nearly 40 NHs. Manipur will become an important centre for East Asia connectivity after the highway connecting Myanmar-Thailand is completed.”
