Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Thursday that China's People's Liberation Army had handed over to India a youth who went missing from Arunachal Pradesh last week.

Rijiju tweeted, “The Chinese PLA has handed over the young boy from Arunachal Pradesh Shri Miram Taron to Indian Army. Due procedures are being followed including the medical examination.”

Taron, a resident of Jido village of Upper Siang district, went missing on January 18. MP Tapir Gao tweeted Taron had been abducted by the PLA.

Rijiju had been sharing information on the status of Taron after the incident attracted political attention. Rahul Gandhi had tweeted about Taron, demanding the Narendra Modi government do its duty and bring him back.

Rijiju had previously announced China had informed on January 20 that the PLA had found a boy on their side and requested for further details to establish his identity. On Wednesday, he announced that China had responded positively on a hotline conversation with the Indian Army.

Incidents of individuals from Arunachal Pradesh straying into Chinese territory happen sporadically given the unmarked nature of the Line of Actual Control.
