That social media is now an integral part of poll campaigning is not news anymore. Neither is the use of memes and tacky movie themes a cause of surprise or shock.
The Congress, once considered a laggard in the digital arena, has apparently decided to look to Hollywood for inspiration.
The Punjab unit of the Congress on Monday shared a video clip inspired from the 2018 Marvel movie Avengers: Infinity War. The faces of Congress leaders have been superimposed on that of the characters.

So, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is Thor, swinging his hammer to help his fellow Avengers, including state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu (Captain America) and Rahul Gandhi (Bruce Banner). Channi is accompanied by former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, who is shown as Groot. The 34-second clip ends with Channi swatting away the villains, shown as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and former chief minister Amarinder Singh, who is now in alliance with the BJP.
The Punjab Congress tweeted, “We will do whatever it takes to redeem our beloved state from the clutches of evil forces working against the interest of Punjab and its people", complete with the hashtag “Congress Hi Ayegi (Only Congress will return to power).”
Expectedly, the video has triggered amusement on social media.
