The Bombay High Court on Wednesday rejected the default bail pleas of eight people accused of involvement in the Bhima-Koregaon violence in early January of 2018. The court granted bail to Sudha Bharadwaj and directed her to approach the designated special NIA court for the bail conditions.
Sudha Bharadwaj, Sudhir Dawale, Dr P. Varavara Rao, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira were arrested between June and August of 2018 on charges of having links to Maoists.
The High Court ordered that Bharadwaj be produced before the special NIA court on December 8 to decide the conditions of bail.

After Bharadwaj was granted bail, advocate Yug Mohit Chaudhry, who appeared for the NIA, sought a stay of two weeks on the matter. He also sought cash surety.
The bench of Justices S.S. Shinde and N.J. Jamadar had reserved its order on the bail pleas of the accused in the Bhima-Koregaon case in separate hearings in August and September this year. The High Court had reserved its order in the plea of Bharadwaj for 'default' (statutory) bail in August, while the order on the pleas of the eight others was reserved in September.
