A Junior Commissioned Officer of Army and a soldier were critically injured in an operation against militants in Poonch, said a statement by the Army.

Army spokesman in Jammu Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said in the statement that there was an exchange of fire between the Army and terrorists this evening in the Mendhar sub division in Poonch. The operation is still on, the statement added.

Reports suggest that the soldier has succumbed to injuries but it could not be verified independently.

The encounter, reportedly, broke out while the security forces were conducting a combing operation in Bhata Dhurian village near Bhimber Gali area of Poonch. The area runs through Dehra Ki Gali where five soldiers, including a JCO, were killed in an encounter with militants on Monday.

Traffic between Bhimber Gali and Surankote along the Rajouri-Poonch national highway has, reportedly, been suspended.
