Four militants were killed while an Indian Army soldier was injured in an encounter at Manihal in Shopian on Monday.
Initially, two militants were killed after security forces engaged militants in a firefight. Later, a third and then fourth militant was killed as the operation progressed.
One soldier was injured in the encounter; he was removed to hospital for treatment.
The identities of the militants are yet to be ascertained. One AK-47 rifle and two pistols were recovered from the slain militants.
The encounter started after a joint team of police’s special operation group (SOG) and Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation at Manihal following information about the presence of militants in the village.
As the security forces closed in on the safe house of the militants, they came under fire. The security forces fired back and in the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed.
