Controversy is continuing over purported comments by Union minister of state V.K. Singh about India transgressing the Line of Actual Control more than China. V.K. Singh was the chief of the Indian Army from 2010 to 2012.Speaking in Madurai on Sunday, Singh had, reportedly, said, "if China has transgressed 10 times, we must have done it at least 50 times."

Late on Monday, China's foreign ministry termed V.K. Singh's claims as an "unwitting confession" of guilt by the Indian side. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said, “This is an unwitting confession by the Indian side. For a long time, the Indian side has conducted frequent acts of trespass in the border area in an attempt to encroach on China’s territory and constantly created disputes and frictions, which is the root cause of the tensions at the China-India border."

On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded V.K. Singh be sacked and warned that not sacking him would mean "insulting every Indian jawan”. Rahul tweeted, "Why is a BJP minister helping China make a case against India? He should’ve been sacked. Not sacking him means insulting every Indian Jawan."

In 2015, the Congress had demanded Singh be sacked from the Modi government for allegedly drawing an analogy between the killing of two dalit children in Faridabad that year and the stoning of a dog.
