The controversy surrounding ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ refuses to die down with the owner of the eatery on Tuesday saying he is ready to apologise to YouTuber Gaurav Wasan if his allegations are proved wrong during the investigation. Eighty-year-old Kanta Prasad, who runs the eatery along with his wife in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, had accused Wasan of misappropriation of funds and had filed a police complaint against him.
Prasad shot to fame after a video of him tearfully recounting the desperation of the months since the lockdown was shared widely across social media platforms. His despair had come to light when Wasan captured the eatery owner breaking down as he talked about his struggles in a video and shared it on his social media account.
However, later Prasad filed a complaint with the police accusing the YouTuber of not providing details of the financial transactions to him.
According to the complaint, Wasan shot Prasad’s video and posted it online and convinced the public on social media to donate money to the eatery owner.
“Wasan intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected huge amount of donation through different mode of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant," the complaint said.
On Monday, Wasan dismissed allegations of misappropriation of funds against him and produced bank statements to prove that he had transacted the money to Prasad's account.
After the video went viral, ‘Baba ka Dhaba’ was the cynosure of many eyes across the country, including celebs from showbiz who posted appeals asking people to go there and get themselves a meal.
