One militant was killed in a gunfight between security forces and militants at Larnoo, Kokernag, in Anantnag on Saturday.
The encounter started after the Police's special operation group (SOG), Army’s 18 RR and CRPF started a search operation at Larnoo after receiving information about presence of militants in the area.
Militants opened fire on security forces after they closed in on the house where the militants were hiding. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed. Army spokesman colonel Rajesh Kalia in a statement said security forces launched a search operation on Saturday based on Jammu and Kashmir Police’s inputs.
“Cordon was laid and contact was established .Fight ensued and one militant was killed. One AK [rifle] was recovered. Joint operation in progress,’’ the statement said.
