The Delhi Police announced on Saturday that it had arrested an alleged operative of ISIS following a brief exchange of fire.

Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said the ISIS operative was arrested after an exchange of fire from Ridge Road between Dhaula Kuan and Karol Bagh. The encounter happened late on Friday.

Zee News reported the ISIS operative's name was Abu Yusuf Khan. The police recovered a pistol and an improvised explosive device from him.

Earlier this week, two men pleaded guilty before a Delhi court for being part of an ISIS conspiracy to recruit Muslim youth through social media to carry out terror attacks.

Abu Anas and Najmul Huda were among 16 people charge-sheeted by the NIA in the case in 2016-17. The group had allegedly formed the Junood-ul-Khilafa-Fil-Hind organisation, which pledged allegiance to ISIS. The sentencing hearing for six others who pleaded guilty in the case previously will be held on Monday.
