A 13-year-old girl was raped and killed in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police said, in the second such incident in the state in two weeks. The incident took place in a village around 130 km from Lucknow. Two men were arrested after the girl’s body was found in the sugarcane field of one of the accused.

Reports said that the girl was strangled, with her eyes gouged out and her tongue cut, as per her father. However, the police said that according to the post-mortem report that came out on Saturday night, the girl’s eyes and tongue were not gouged or cut out.

Rape and strangulation have been confirmed by the report.

SP Satendra Kumar, however, said that they were scratches near the girl’s eyes, but it is likely due to the sharp sugarcane leaves in the field where her body was found.

“The girl’s post mortem has confirmed rape. The two accused had been arrested already. We will file charges for rape, murder and also under the National Security Act,” the district police chief said.

The girl’s father said that his daughter went missing on Friday afternoon, and that they went looking for her. He said that after the body was found, he saw that the girl’s eyes and tongue were cut, and she was strangled with a dupatta.

Last week, a 6-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur was kidnapped from outside her home by a man on a motorcycle and raped. The police arrested the accused on Friday, a week after the incident. The girl, who has multiple injuries is being treated at a hospital, with doctors confirming that she is out of danger.
