AIADMK MLA K. Palani tests positive for COVID-19; second legislator in TN to contract virus

A legislator of the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Tamil Nadu has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to reports, Sriperumbudur MLA K. Palani was admitted to the MIOT hospital in Nandambakkam.

The source of the infection is not immediately known. Reports said the MLA had been involved in relief activities in his constituency. Sriperumbudur is one of the worst-hit areas in Tamil Nadu.

The 57-year-old leader is the second lawmaker in the state to contract the deadly virus. 

Recently, DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan died in a private hospital in Chennai days after he tested positive for COVID-19. The 62-year-old lawmaker represented the Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni constituency.
