Five militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at Reban village in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday.

Kashmir Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that the identity of the killed terrorists is being established.

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation around the village in the morning after specific intelligence input about the presence of terrorists in the area. The operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at the search party of the forces.

Defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told PTI that good drills have ensured no collateral damage took place during the operation.
