A 49-year-old man in Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district has claimed that Google Maps is causing problems in his marital life and threatening to break apart his family.

R. Chandrashekhar has even approached the police with a complaint to this effect. In the complaint he says, Google Maps is claiming he has been at locations he has never visited and some action should be taken against the company for the same. He added that he would even take the tech giant to court over the matter.

“For the last few months, my wife has been constantly scanning the ‘Your Timeline’ feature on Google Maps and refuses to let me sleep, as she questions where I was. She is constantly thinking about this, is getting affected and affecting the rest of the family, too,” the complaint reads.

Chandrashekhar further said that his wife believes Google over everything else and refuses to believe anything friends, relatives or counsellors are saying. Google Maps, on May 20, showed his wife places he never visited, which led to suspicions and problems.

The officer handling the case, K. Singaravelu, in a quote to The News Minute said that no FIR has been filed and there are no plans to do so either. He added that they plan to call the husband and wife and take them for counselling. “If that doesn’t work we will see what steps to take next.”
