An FIR was filed against a liquor shop in Bengaluru after a receipt of liquor worth Rs 52,841 bought from the store went viral on social media.

The FIR was filed against Vanilla Spirit Zone, located in Tavarekere Main Road. After liquor stores were opened in Red, Orange and Green zones on Monday in Karnataka and some other states, stores in Karnataka state itself did business for about Rs 45 crore.

Twitter users were expressing disbelief over the amount spent on buying liquor. One user shared the image saying, “Someone spent his month’s salary today.”

The state excise department booked the vendor for violating licence rules.

Retail outlets are not allowed to sell more than 2.3 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) or 18.2 litres of beer to a customer per day. The retailer has said that the purchase was made by eight people, who were billed together and was paid through a single ATM/debit card.

Long queues were seen outside nearly all liquor stores. But people were also maintaining social distancing rules and keeping a distance from one another while standing in queues.

Another liquor receipt amounting to Rs 95,347, billed in Bengaluru went viral as well.  This was from a store in an outlet in Bengaluru’s Dollars Colony.

Investigations are being made regarding the same.
