Even as the country is fighting against COVID-19, an unidentified person put up a post on OLX to sell the world's tallest statue—Statue of Unity—for Rs 30,000 crore. The advertisement has invited police complaint against the person and the website.

The 182m-high statue of Sardar Vallabhai Patel is located near the Sardar Sarovar Dam site in Kevadia, Gujarat.

In an official release on Sunday, Nileshkumar Dubey, deputy chief administrator of the Statue of Unity, said that the unidentified person put up a post saying that the statue was for sale as fund is required for building hospitals and purchasing medical equipment. The post has since been removed from the website.

He said that the authorities took a serious view of a news report that appeared in a local daily on Sunday and action was initiated. A police complaint has been filed at the Kevadia police station.

Dubey said that by putting up such a post, the sentiments of the people of India have been hurt.

He also said that it is unfortunate that OLX also approved the post without verifying it.
