Gujarat reports six new cases of coronavirus

The number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state stands at 13

The 'Janta Curfew' announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Sunday have already started showing its pre-effects in his home state Gujarat, even as the state registered six more cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. The number of positive cases in Gujarat now stands at 13.

Crowded shopping places in the old cities of Ahmedabad and Surat wore a deserted look and main roads had a very little traffic. Transport services and BRTS in Ahmedabad were stopped from 5 pm.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who headed a series of meetings to review the situation, said six new cases were reported on Saturday.

Two cases were reported from Surat and one each from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara. A resident of Jaipur, who is currently in Ahmedabad, has also tested positive.

The age group of all men, who have tested positive, is between 23 and 69 years. They have travel history to Dubai, New Delhi, USA and Sri Lanka.

As many as twenty people with whom they have had close contact have been quarantined.

Out of 189 samples tested in Gujarat so far, 148 have been negative and reports of 28 are awaited.

COVID-19 samples are being tested at four centres in Gujarat.

As part of a series of measures taken by the state government, APL and BPL card holders will be given ration of one month in advance.

School and colleges are shut. Religious and tourist places are closed.

Restaurants have been asked not to allow sit ins and provide only home delivery or takeaways.
