The number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has gone up to five, with three more cases being reported.

The Gujarat government on Friday morning confirmed three more positive cases. Two cases—one each from Rajkot and Surat—were reported on Thursday.

Health Commissioner Jayanti Ravi said in Gandhinagar that the new cases have been reported from Ahmedabad and Vadodara.

She said that, luckily, the age of the affected persons is not advanced and hence they do not fall in the high-risk group category. According to her, the patients—a man and two women—are currently on oxygen support.

The man from Vadodara had returned from Spain and the two women from Ahmedabad had returned from Finland and the US.

The health commissioner said that contact tracing of the people with whom the positive persons had met is being done.

According to unofficial sources, those who have come in contact with these persons have also been quarantined.

Jayanti said that 123 persons have tested negative in Gujarat so far. Results of 22 persons are pending.

She said that on Thursday, 559 travellers from abroad had come to Gujarat and out of which 63 persons have been taken to institutional quarantine facility and 492 persons have been quarantined at home.

In a bid to control the spread of COVID-19, in the last couple of days, the Gujarat government has in a phased manner closed tourist attractions and temples, including the Statue of Unity and Somnath Temple.

Gymnasiums and swimming pools are closed and so are elite clubs and multiplexes.

The biggest garden of Vadodara—Sayaji Garden—has been closed for visitors.

Jayanti asked people to cooperate and report to the authorities if they find any quarantined person(s) moving out of homes.

As part of the Janata curfew announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 22, the state government has announced that all transport services like city buses, BRTS and state transport services will remain suspended.
