The Union government on Saturday announced the Padma awards 2020. 

Former Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and George Fernandes have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan—the second highest civilian award in the country—posthumously. Spiritual leader Sri Vishveshateertha Swamiji has also been selected for the Padma Vibhushan  posthumously. Others selected for Padma Vibhushan included Olympion boxer M.C. Mary Kom and former Mauritius prime minister Anerood Gugnauth.

The Padma Bhushan for this year has been awarded to a total of 16 prominent personalities, including former defence minister Manohar Parrikar, industrialists Anand Mahindra and Venu Shrinivasan, Olympian badminton player P.V. Sindhu, former Nagaland chief minister S.C. Jamir and Jammu and Kashmir politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig.

As many as 118 people across fields of art, literature and education, medicine, trade and industry, sports, public affairs, social work and science and engineering have been selected for the Padma Shri awards. They included filmmakers Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and actor Kangana Ranaut and singers Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami, as well as veteran TV actor Sarita Joshi.
