The Union government on Saturday announced the Padma awards 2020. 

Former Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and George Fernandes have been honoured the Padma Vibhushan—the second highest civilian award in the country—posthumously, on the Republic Day this year. A total of seven prominent personalities have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, which also included Olympian boxer M.C. Mary Kom and former Mauritius prime minister Anerood Gugnauth.

A total of 16 prominent personalities have been selected for  the Padma Bhushan—the third highest civilian award—this year. They included former defence minister Manohar Parrikar, industrialists Anand Mahindra and Venu Shrinivasan, Olympian badminton player P.V. Sindhu, former Nagaland chief minister S.C. Jamir and Jammu and Kashmir politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig.

As many as 118 people across fields of art, literature and education, medicine, trade and industry, sports, public affairs, social work and science and engineering have been selected for the Padma Shri awards. They included filmmakers Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and actor Kangana Ranaut and singers Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami, as well as veteran TV actor Sarita Joshi.
