The Gujarat Government on Monday said that it would ensure capital punishment for the accused in recent rape cases in Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat.

Minister of state for home, Pradeepsinh Jadeja, said in Gandhinagar that the accused in Rajkot and Surat rape cases were arrested and vigorous attempts are on to arrest those involved in a rape case in Vadodara.

He said that the government will request the High Court to take up these cases in fast-track courts.

In Vadodara, a young girl, who was sitting with his lover near Navlakhi area, was allegedly gang-raped by four men after being dragged into the bushes. Her lover was also beaten up by the gang.

Navlakhi is an area with green cover and police found it difficult to trace the accused. The investigators have prepared sketches of the accused based on the girl's statements.

For the first time, the police are also using drone to monitor the area and zero in on the accused.

Jadeja said 25 teams have been formed to nab the accused.

In Rajkot, an eight-year-old girl, who was sleeping in a public park, was raped by a man in his 20s on November 29 night.

On the same night, a 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the lover of her widowed mother in Surat.

According to sources, alarmed by the recent rape cases, the state government is planning to launch a mobile app that can be used by women in distress. It is also reported that plans are afoot to have speed boats in Sabarmati River Front area to patrol the area.
