Former Kerala chief minister and senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), V.S. Achuthanandan, was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday evening after he reported high blood pressure.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the veteran politician at the hospital.

Achuthanandan, who turned 96 last Sunday, is the incumbent chairman of the Administrative Reforms Committee. A seven-time legislator, he currently represents the Malambuzha constituency in Palakkad district.

Achuthanandan was the chief minister from 2006 to 2011.
