Surat woman jumps to death, falls on man, both die immediately

Mamata was being treated for insomnia among other physical illnesses

In a tragic accident, a Surat woman who jumped to her death fell on a 69-year-old who was returning from his morning walk. Both die on the spot. Mamata Hansraj Rathi had come to stay with her brother in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She was in the city getting treatment for multiple illnesses and was staying with her brother Rajendra Bhutda on the 13th floor of the Parishkar Apartments building.

Balu Gamit, a 69-year-old, who lived in the same building, was returning from his morning walk when Mamata decided to end her life by jumping from the 13th floor of the apartment building in Khokhra area of the city.

Mamata who had arrived at her brother's house with her husband and 4-year-old daughter was being treated for insomnia among other physical illnesses. Mamata, whose mental state was disturbed according to her family had not slept for a fortnight. Her family feels that her other illnesses may have driven her to despair.

Mamata's family have locked their house and left for Surat. The police, for now, have registered a case for accidental death and sent the bodies for post mortem. They are also examining CCTV footage from the building.
