Several people were injured as student activists and police clashed during a protest march by the pro-BJP students union ABVP from Golpark in Kolkata to Jadavpur University on Monday afternoon.
ABVP activists had barged past the gates of Jadavpur University on Thursday after Union Minister Babul Supriyo was heckled by activists of the left-leaning SFI union. The protest march on Monday was organised by the ABVP to protest last week's incidents.
The state police blocked the marching ABVP activist by erecting barricades. The marching ABVP students clashed with police, and security personnel resorted to a lathicharge and brickbats were used. At least 20 students and seven policemen have been injured in the violence.
