1. SC to hear on Monday pleas against abrogation of Article 370, curbs in J-K, and the Ravidas temple row

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear today pleas challenging abrogation of provisions of Article 370—which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir—validity of imposition of president's rule and the related restrictions imposed in the state. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S.A. Bobde and S. Abdul Nazeer will also hear a bunch fresh petitions, including the one filed by former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad seeking permission to visit his family members and relatives.

Ravidas temple reconstruction: On August 27, two former parliamentarians from the Congress party had moved the apex court seeking its nod to reconstruct the now-demolished Ravidas temple in New Delhi, saying it is a pious site and prayers were held there for last 500-600 years. The petitioners have said that they are devout followers of Guru Ravidas and used to pray regularly at the site. The court will hear the petiton today.

2. Chidambaram to spend 74th birthday in jail

Former finance minister P. Chidambaram will spend his 74th birthday in Tihar Jail as the Delhi High Court on Thursday directed CBI to file its status report on his bail plea in the INX Media corruption case within a week. Chidambaram, who is in judicial custody till September 19 in the case, will turn 74 today and the high court has fixed September 23 for further hearing his bail plea. Chidambaram will be produced before the trial court in the case on September 19. 

3. Zomato to launch 'binge-worthy' TV shows

Food aggregator Zomato will launch original content TV shows for the next three months, with chef Sanjeev Kapoor, comedian Sumukhi Suresh and more. The TV shows will revolve around food. With the launch in 17 new cities, Zomato has also expanded its online ordering and food delivery services to 213 cities in India. The newly launched cities include Bulandshahr, Shahjahanpur, Solan, Palwal, Rewari, Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Bhimavaram, Ongole, Srikakulam, Kadapa, Kottayam, Kollam, Khanna, Gurdaspur, Ambur and Deoghar, Zomato said in a statement. "Emerging cities are a major growth avenue for us and we expect them to constitute more than 50 per cent of our total order volume by the end of the year," Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said.

4. 8 dead, 25 missing as boat carrying tourists capsizes in river

A private boat carrying around 60 tourists capsized in swollen Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh, leaving at least eight people dead and 25 others missing on Sunday. The boat 'Royal Vasishta' was on its way to the picturesque Papikondalu tourist spot in the middle of the river when it met with an accident, apparently on colliding with a large rock formation, at Kachchuluru in East Godavari District.

5. World Wrestling Championships; Pankaj Advani wins 22nd world title; Premier League weekend

Wrestling: Ravi won India's first bout at the World Wrestling Championships before suffering a defeat by fall as the country's Greco-Roman wrestlers' disappointing show continued on Sunday. Olympic qualification was at stake in three categories but all three Indians cut a sorry figure as Manish (67kg), Sunil Kumar (87kg) and Ravi (97kg) exited without a fight.

Billiards: One of India's most consistent sportspersons, Pankaj Advani, on Sunday increased his tally of world titles to 22 by winning a fourth straight final in the 150-up format at the IBSF World Billiards Championship here. The 34-year-old has brought home a world trophy every year ever since returning from a professional stint in the UK in 2014. In the short format of billiards, this is Advani's fifth title in the last six years.

Premier League: Manchester City succumbed to a first Premier League defeat since January in stunning fashion to newly-promoted Norwich 3-2, as Liverpool opened up a five-point lead at the top of the table by beating Newcastle 3-1. Tottenham and Chelsea bounced back to form with comprehensive wins over Crystal Palace and Wolves respectively, while Manchester United held out for a much-needed three points with a 1-0 victory over Leicester.

6. Trump to join Modi in Houston to address 50K Indian-Americans

US President Donald Trump will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Houston's mega "Howdy, Modi!" event on September 22, the White House said on Sunday. Reflecting on the new bonhomie in the India-US ties under the Trump administration, this is for the first time in recent history that the leaders of the two largest democracies would be addressing a joint rally anywhere in the world. More than 50,000 Indian-Americans from across the US have registered for the September 22 mega "Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures" event to be held at the sprawling NRG Stadium in Houston.
